Chihuahuas game suspended
The Chihuahuas jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the game was stopped by rain after the top of the second. After an hour delay, the game was suspended and he two teams will resume action Saturday with a doubleheader. The first game will continue as a nine-inning contest, followed by a seven-inning tilt immediately following the first game.

Prospect Watch: The Missions managed just two hits in a loss to Midland. Despite the offensive struggles, San Antonio’s pitching staff performed quite well. The four pitchers used combined to strike out 16 batters without issuing a walk. … Lefty Austin Krob put the exclamation point on a tremendous August with one of his best outings of the season. The former TCU hurler tossed six innings, allowing just one run on five hits. He struck out ten and did not walk a batter. It was the third time this year Krob has struck out 10 or more batters. After pitching to a 6.86 ERA in June and July, Krob has turned things around in August. In six starts this month, he has a 1.67 ERA with 30 strikeouts in 32.1 innings. He walked only seven batters and didn’t allow a homer. Both his FIP and xFIP are significantly better than the 4.46 ERA he’s put up across 113 innings on the year. … Wandy Peralta made his third rehab appearance, striking out one in his inning of work. The veteran southpaw worked in two games with the Storm before having his assignment transferred to San Antonio. With rosters expanding to 28 on Sunday, he seems like a good bet to be activated. …At the plate, Ripken Reyes had a clutch home run in the ninth inning to briefly tie the game at one. For Reyes, it was just his second homer of the season. The 27-year-old out of USD has struggled this season after putting together a solid campaign in 2023. In 108 games, Reyes has posted a career-worst .642 OPS that includes a sub-.300 slugging percentage.

Prospect Watch: The TinCaps belted out a season-high 19 hits to beat Lansing on the road. … Kai Murphy was one of three TinCaps hitters with four hits. Murphy, 24, has put together a solid August, hitting .267/.371/.378 with a pair of homers. Murphy is tied for fifth in the league with 24 doubles. … Catcher Ethan Salas had a pair of hits including his 26th double of the season. While the overall numbers this season for Salas aren’t inspiring, he’s put things together a bit in August. With Friday’s multi-hit effort, the 18-year-old is hitting .250/.309/.432 this month. … Devin Ortiz had a double, three singles, scored three runs, and drove in a pair. The versatile University of Virginia product has played in a career-high 109 games this season for Fort Wayne, hitting .237/.335/.313. … Tyler Robertson continued his blistering streak, notching four singles and driving in three runs. The four-hit night extended his hitting streak to seven games. Robertson is 18-for-38 since coming off the IL, although 17 of those hits have been singles. Overall, the 24-year-old is hitting .285/.355/.406 for Fort Wayne this year. … On the pitching side of things, the TinCaps got another fantastic effort from hard-throwing Braden Nett. Nett earned his fifth win of the season, allowing just one earned run in five innings of work. While he walked three, he struck out five and induced eight ground ball outs. Nett has been fantastic in August, pitching to a 2.05 ERA in six games. He completed at least five innings in five of his six outings and he struck out 38 batters in 30.2 innings.
